“Someone called for a doctor?”  Conrad had spent the last several hours sleepless, downing cup after cup of shitty instant coffee and praying for a new patient.  Anything, a distraction  to get his mind off— off…

(There had been so much blood…)

He caught the man coming through the front doors — a lookalike of the nameless hunter — supporting a hobbling teenage boy who was very likely wounded.  “How bad is he hurt?” Conrad helped him get the boy inside, wincing a bit at the blood (much more than a trained doctor should have).

“Yes— I did.” he confirmed, hauling Hanna a little bit higher to get the majority of his weight off of his feet.

“His wing, I know that much—” Seriously that wing had been injured for months now, “And several other places, you’ll have to check.” The wincing, caught him off guard. But since when was anyone around here truly prepared?

Hanna took off his shirt, and cried out in pain as he let his wings sprout from his back. He was shaking. He coughed weakly.

“Oh, you’re…”  Conrad swallowed; he really should be more used to supernatural creatures by now.  “Come on, let’s get you into the clinic.  You’ll need that bandaged up.”

“My… My wing… I-I think it’s broken..” He whimpered, voice weak.

Hanna nearly leapt into Jayne’s arms. He winced heavily as he moved. The pain in his back was excruciating. He was shaking, and cold, and let out a few rough coughs.

“J-Jayne…”

“It’s okay Hanna don’t move— we’ll find someone to look at you, promise.” he kept the teen on his feet, but refused to actually pick him up, not wanting to agitate any new injuries he may have. “Just take it slow, okay? Nice and slow.”

He shot one last look at Toni. A thank you.

He nodded, grabbing Jayne’s hand. He seemed to stumble a bit, his footing seeming a bit off. He coughed again, his whole body shaking as he did. He groaned in pain.

“J-Jayne…”

Toni’s tail wagged as she noticed that the harpy went to the human. He was a friend to Hanna, so she hoped either he or someone else would help fix up Hanna’s health.

Addressing Hanna, she asked, “Y—ou ok-ay now?”

Hanna nodded. “Thank you, Toni…” He smiled weakly at her.

Toni watched the human carefully as she too got closer to the barrier and stood in front of him. She noticed he had a weapon and didn’t make a move to attack her with it. Trusting him a little, she sniffed in his direction and asked, “Y-ou he—lp hi-m?”

”..Yes, yes I help him. I need him back—” he’d been worried; no matter how much it seemed he hadn’t shown it. Drawing to the edge, he offered his open arms out, so he could take the teen back.

He shook his head. “I… I don’t have a home…”

Toni let out a quiet huff, a little frustrated. She needed to get him to safety, but where the hell would that be in this city?

Something flickered in her mind, though…the memories of when she had been running with other werewolves. Children, barriers, and safety. The warehouses!

Hoping that the monsters hadn’t already killed the humans there, she took off in that direction.

With a stifled cry of pain, Hanna withdrew his wings back into his body. He slipped his damp shirt back on, wincing at the pain in his back. He kept hold of her fur, never letting his guard down, even as weak as he was.

Hanna kept a watchful eye through his cracked glasses. He focused mostly, however, on keeping himself from coughing. He needed to stay silent in order to keep them safe, and hidden.

After descending to the ground floor, she stopped and waited. Once she was sure there weren’t any threats around she turned and asked as quietly as possible, “Wh—ere go? You ha—ve…ho-me?”

He shook his head. “I… I don’t have a home…”

He climbed onto her back, gripping tightly to her fur. He folded his wings back, preparing himself for anything.

Once Hanna was situated she turned her head to nuzzle his elbow reassuringly. For a moment she stayed put and just listened to the intruder’s movements. When she realized it was moving closer to them she ran out of the room silently. Going the opposite direction of the intruder’s location, she found another set of stairs and started descending, careful not to jostle Hanna. If a monster was already in the building, it would be best to leave it in favor of someplace safer.

Hanna tensed, his taloned hands twitching. He trembled, his wings unfurling a bit. He was anticipating the worst.

After a long period of silence, something began shuffling. Toni couldn’t hear any growls or signs that whatever this is could be a monster, but she wasn’t taking any chances. Stealth and speed were her strong points, so she made little to no sound as she moved. As carefully as possible she shifted herself so she lay prone next to Hanna and began nudging him, trying to ease him onto her back—just in case they had to make an escape.

He smiled softly, cuddling close to her. The warmth felt nice. Having a friend was nice.

She nuzzled his shoulder gently, absentmindedly showing affection in order to keep him from stressing out like he did earlier. However, she kept her eyes trained on the door, her ears straight up and muscles still tense. Just in case anythi—

There was a loud crash somewhere a few floors down.

Though silence followed, Toni leaned forward so her body shielded the harpy. Lips pulled back in a silent snarl, she stayed completely still…hoping that keeping quiet would keep them both safe.
